The Purpose
We the People STAND UPa non-partisan 501(c)(4) organization based in South Dakota, is committed to one purpose: the demand that John Thune, Senate Majority Leader—and all elected representatives—honor their oath of office to protect and defend the US Constitution.
We the People STAND UP has evolved from We the People SD which was organized in September 2025 with an initial focus on South Dakota and the upper Midwest. Because of increasing threats to the Constitution and with support from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, We the People SD transitioned in March 2026 to a national focus with the launch of We the People STAND UP.
On September 17, 1787, the delegates to the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia signed the final draft of the U.S. Constitution, a document founded on the rule of law and the separation of powers that has guided this nation through trials and turmoil as we the people strived to build a more perfect union. Today, however, the Constitution is under an unprecedented assault—by authoritarian ambition.
Article 1 of the Constitution assigns the Legislative branch the responsibility to act as a check on executive power. Despite swearing an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, Senator Thune in his role as Senate Majority Leader, and other members of Congress, rather than affirming their Constitutional authority and responsibilities, have instead remained silent in the face of escalating un-American abuses of power by President Trump.
